Thanks to Linda's post, I finally found a Louisiana Waterthrush -- two, in fact. The first was loudly audible before I stepped out of the car at 8:20 this morning, singing from just downstream of the bridge. I spent several fruitless minutes trying to spy the bird before it flew upstream. I followed to the other side of the bridge and was treated to what looked like a brief territorial clash. The original male was apparently being turned back downstream and found a safe spot directly in front of me where it sang and twirled its tail. The second bird staked a spot nearby and sang a few times before heading further upstream.
I've always struck out while looking for the species at this traditional spot and was happy to break the drought.Scott Richardson

We found the Louisiana Waterthrush at Merriland River in Wells on Coles Hill Rd. We were lucky that the parking lot was full and we had to park on the other side of the river since the bird was singing right next to the road. With all the water running we would not have heard it from the parking lot.
