[Maine-birds] Chimney Swift roost - Brunswick

After noticing a concentration of Chimney Swifts in downtown Brunswick on a previous recent evening, Liz and I watched and waited to see what they were using for a roost. About 200 swifts swirled into the tall chimney on the back side of the J&J Cleaners building (best visible from Mason St or Dunlap St wherever you can find a safe place to park or stand — there are various options) at 8:34 p.m. last evening (a cloudy evening with low overcast). The time may vary slightly in the coming weeks with day length and sky cover, but it should be somewhere close to that for a while.

If you haven't had a chance to observe the phenomenon first hand, it's pretty cool to watch. And not a bad birding option after dinner if you happen to be in downtown Brunswick for a meal...

Good birding!
