[Maine-birds] The County - Jun 07-08

Lots of neat nesting ducks at Lake Jo; but no Ruddy Ducks or Redheads present. Checked both days. Wigeon continue to increase in numbers here.
Listened to simultaneously calling Am Bitter, Sora and Va. Rail along the edge of Christina Res.

Bike and bird trip along the Stockholm-Van Buren ATV Trail modified and abbreviated because of pending rain. Birds were very quiet and all but invisible. Only managed 14 warblers. We made a triangle out of the ATV Trail plus part of the Muscovic Rd. and a Connecting Trail. Habitat continues to be outstanding here.

Checking Lake Jo again on our way home; came across a huge swarm of swallows, coursing low over the surface; dominated by Trees, but all 5 species present. We carefully estimated just shy of 1,000 total birds. Still no Ruddy Ducks or Redheads.
