Re: [Maine-birds] Red-winged Blackbirds in Belgrade Lakes

Had a male in Canaan this afternoon; only the second time I've ever had one in Feb.  My earliest record ever was Feb. 27, 2002.  I wonder if that was also an El Nino year.  Last year my first was 3/17; average is 3/12 (compiled over a 30 year period), which has remained fairly constant for many years.

Observed from the shore of Mill Stream behind the Maine Lakes Resource Center in Belgrade Lakes village this afternoon. Two male birds. Heard vocalizing (conk-la-ree song and "check" calls. Located on silver maple on adjacent property. Observed and photographed for several minutes before birds flew east over the stream.
