One trip around Frenchman Bay (first of the season). Thirty-two people on a cloudy, misty trip with 4 ft. seas.
Common Loon 24, all in breeding plumage which was unusual, there are usually a few winter plumaged birds throughout the summer.
Red-necked Grebe 2
Great Cormorant 10+
Double-crested Cormorant 50+ most of them on nests on Thrumcap Island.
Common Eider 100+ most of them around Egg Rock. About 50-50 males and females.
Herring Gulls all throughout the nesting area on Egg Rock. Two were observed in a rather violent tug-of-war with a stick. Nest building birds I would assume.
Black Scoter, many small flights of 2 to 4 birds moving across the bay.
Long-tailed Duck, 8 off the Bar Harbor breakwater.
Black Guillemot, 20+ all through the bay area.
Bald Eagle 2, one on the Sheep Porcupine Island nest with its mate nearby.
