Drought condition, low water, heavy vegetation in muddy river bed of the
Old Course of the Saco have made it hard to observe the wading birds.
Today I got lucky and found a juvenile American Bittern hunting in the
Pickerel Weed. It was very wary taking flight at the least movement. I
was able to follow it downstream for a while and get some pictures.
