[Maine-birds] GREAT BLACK HAWK, Deering Oaks Park, NOW!!!

Hi all,

I have not seen it posted here yet, but the news is breaking elsewhere (apologies if it gets posted as I type this!): The enigma that is the GREAT BLACK HAWK is back!

It was apparently photographed yesterday ( 11/28), and once again posted to the "What Bird is This?" Facebook group. Video of it eating, reportedly a squirrel, were also acquired.

And as of about 12:30pm today, it is still being observed in the park!

A short distance from the last observation at the Eastern Promenade about a month ago, one must think it has remained in the Portland area. While I did check Deering Oaks Park on a hunch after the Eastern Prom sighting (the park is good for raptors), this is a very lightly birded park, and no doubt could have been in the area undetected for who knows how long.

Incredible!

Good luck,
Derek
