Visitors:
With the nice weather came many more parkgoers with 20 showing up to the count site.
Weather:
What a spectacular weather day! Temps climbed up into the low sixties with abundant sunshine. Morning clouds parted fairly early and returned late in the day. Wind was light but picked up by the final hour, from the southeast. A very pleasant day but a bit of a tease I'm afraid.
Raptor Observations:
I thought today was going to produce more birds than it did. It was well over an hour before I spotted a raptor of any kind. A little surprising given the plentiful sun. Eagles were yet again giving some difficulty with determining their intentions regarding migration, with many birds spotted throughout the day, often in groups of five or six diving on each other, talons out. Rarely did we see Eagles flying point to point in a south to north fashion.
Non-raptor Observations:
Not much movement from song birds or geese. We did however have two more Sandhill Cranes pass by in the afternoon. They were spotted to our west and slowly made their way behind the mountain to the north, providing pretty good looks. 27 species were seen or heard today
Predictions:
Rain appears to be on the way, starting early tomorrow morning, bringing some gusty winds as well from the east and northeast. That doesn't sound promising and it could be a washout. If the predictions are wrong and it lets up, I'll be up, looking for raptors.
