Came across a Peregrine Falcon feasting on a freshly killed male Wood Duck in the middle of the street of a residential neighborhood in Brunswick this late afternoon. We were so focused on the 100 or so American Crows vocalizing and gathering nearby that we walked by the dead duck without even noticing it. Another couple standing there pointed out the falcon perched on a low-hanging cable about 20 feet from us at which point we also noticed the duck on the ground. We immediately backed up a good bit to give the bird some space and, after a short time, the falcon flew back down to resume plucking and eating. Amazing.
