RE: [Maine-birds] mdi birding

I had a similar day here on MDI today. My family and friends hiked the Gorham Mountain loop, returning to the parking lot along the Ocean Path, right next to Ocean Drive. We, too, had loads of White-winged Crossbills. And a flock of Snow Buntings flew over us as we lunched atop Gorham Mountain.

As for grebes, we had numbers of Red-necked Grebes, as well as some Horned Grebes, along Ocean Drive. We also had a few Great Cormorant on Old Soaker, off Sand Beach, and several rafts of Black Scoter. Of course, Common Eider were abundant, as usual in this location.

Spent the day hiking on MDI and enjoyed flocks of white winged crossbills, both flying over and posing for us.

Two snow buntings on cliffs above the surf along the road near sand beach were a surprise.

Feeding in the water were a guillemot, eiders, and three grebes. Am wondering what people see for grebes there.
