[Maine-birds] Bangor & Holden

Friday at Essex Woods Marsh there were 4 pairs of Mallards, 1 pair of Canada Geese on a little island (not the one that floats & moves about with the wind), a Belted Kingfisher, & 5 Tree Swallows flew over. At Mt. Hope Cemetery there were a few Mallards & a handsome pair of Hooded Mergansers, as well as a reported mink fishing in the ponds. In Holden on Lower Dedham Road a Winter Wren has been singing for about a week; "my" Woodcock & Phoebe are back; and there are Mallards, Hooded Mergansers, & Wood Ducks on Burton Mill Stream. Yesterday a large, long-legged bird flew by my window view, giving me a teasingly quick view of an outstretched neck (Sandhill Crane maybe?). I quickly went down to the stream with binoculars to see if it might have stopped, but no. This morning at 5:30 my American Bittern was calling. All is as it should be here on the stream.
