Visitors:
24. Thanks, Douglas, for spending the afternoon at the hawkwatch tracking
down migrants!

Weather:
Not quite what was forcasted. A stubborn batch of clouds hung around until
noon, when crystal blue skies took over for the remainder of the day. The
wind shifted around, gusting alternately from the east and the west, but
always with a strong northern element. Wind speeds were a bit higher in the
morning, dying off in the afternoon. Temperatures peaked a degree or two
shy of 60, making winter coats seem a thing of the distant past.

Raptor Observations:
A slow, but relatively steady trickle of raptors sauntered northward. One
Red-shouldered Hawk soared up above a local Bald Eagle, tying the record
for most red-shouldereds seen in a season. For most of the day, local birds
were more active than migrants. Our gang of Turkey Vultures ensured there
was always something to look at in the sky.

Non-raptor Observations:
Far more Tree Swallows on the move today, coming through in loose groups of
3-5. The Bohemian Waxwings were back, this time a little band of 6 who
after a few minutes of deliberation decided there were too many people
around the junipers and headed for quieter feeding grounds.

Non-raptor Migrants:
Canada Goose- 22              Common Loon- 1
Double-crested Cormorant- 2   Killdeer- 1
shorebird sp.- 10             Tree Swallow- 53
American Robin- 18            Red-winged Blackbird- 3
Common Grackle- 9             Brown-headed Cowbird- 3
blackbird sp.- 225            American Goldfinch- 1
passerine sp.- 4

Predictions:
It looks like we're getting into some unsettled weather for this week.
Scattered rain showers tomorrow morning, with a chance of rain in the
afternoon. Overcast skies should break apart later in the day to allow for
some sun. The wind will be shifting around from southeast in the morning to
northwest later on. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s. Birds should be
moving in between and after any rain showers.
