At the Frenchman's Hill fire pond this afternoon, the pair of Canada Geese and pair of Mallards were joined by another pair of Mallards and a pair of Common Mergansers. The two pair of Mallards and the Mergansers swam in a group around the pond while I was watching. Later in the day I could not see the Mergansers but all else were still there.
Yesterday in our yard, a pair of Cardinals (very unusual, I don't remember if it has happened before, and they are gone today). Also conspicuous, the Pileated woodpecker who sailed into a tree near the house. They are nearby every day, but not usually in the yard.--
