[Maine-birds] NWS Radar is LIT UP

Clear skies and a light southerly breeze have made for a big movement of nocturnal bird migrants this evening in northern and eastern Maine.  Even though the sky is crystal clear, the Caribou Doppler radar is showing an impressive "cloud" of birds on the move :

The velocity image loop shows the direction of all these birds is SSW to NNE. See it here: 


[Green shows birds approaching the radar unit in Hodgdon (just south of Houlton) and Red shows birds moving away from the same.]

Hope there's some bird nerds still up, since these image loops are time sensitive...  If you miss it and would like to see some screen captures of the radar, let me know off line and I can send them along.
