I have learned that the freshness of the seed is paramount. Seed over 6 months old is not nearly as desirable. Just my own experience and observations.

Subject: [Maine-birds] Brown-headed cowbirds and a question
--I saw my first ever brown-headed cowbirds at myfeeders (Old Town) this morning.I hung a nyger sock two months ago and haveonly noticed a few birds on it. I'm wonderingif it's the sock, availability of different seed, season or what...please advise. Thanks,Dave
