Re: [Maine-birds] Olive-sided flycatcher in Harmony?

Well, I'm certainly no expert and given the brief time that I saw it, I would not try to say anything definitively. Michael, I'm not sure if it pumped its tail or I imagined it did because I instantly thought phoebe, or vice versa... Anyhoo, it was a dark and rainy morning.

Thanks all,

Hi Maggie,

That's an interesting observation, but it's highly unlikely that it was an Olive-sided Flycatcher, as they are generally late migrants, and the entire population should still be in South and Central America, and don't show up in Maine until Mid May. I suspect it was merely an odd looking Phoebe, which is the only flycatcher likely to be around the next few weeks.

Just stepped out onto the back porch for firewood when I noticed what I at first thought was an E. Phoebe in a bush near the feeders. As I stood there with my arms full of wood, however, I realized the bird had a more distinct, but smaller white "vest" area and seemed darker overall than phoebes I have seen. By the time I got the wood inside and got the bins, it was gone...
