[Maine-birds] Last Week's birds in Southern Maine

Sorry to post these so late.  Some highlights from a recent trip to Camp Ellis and surrounding areas.
Monday evening June 23rd visited Saco Heath.  The highlight was a possible juvenile Lincoln's Sparrow.  I had thought that it was a Song Sparrow and still have my doubts (juvenile sparrows can be so tough), but some very good birders have corrected the ID and feel it is likely a Lincoln's Sparrow.  Also some of the more expected specialties such as singing/calling Common Raven, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Hermit Thrush, Canada Warbler, Nashville Warbler and Purple Finch.

Saco Bay highlights include an alternate plumage Horned Grebe present for most of the week near the Camp Ellis jetty, occasional Roseate Terns foraging on the bay and an adult Forster's Tern! (photographed on Wednesday).

Kennebunk Plains (Wednesday):  I had no luck with the Clay-colored Sparrow, but did have most of the expected birds including Vesper, Savannah and Grasshopper Sparrows, Eastern Meadowlark, American Kestrel and Bobolink.  An Upland Sandpiper was acting as if it had chicks in the area where the Clay-colored Sparrow had  been heard.

On Thursday there were seven Little Blue Herons on Eastern Road in Scarborough, along with both Nelson's and Saltmarsh Sparrows.  There were also a few Saltmarsh Sparrows behind the Blue Cold Pelreco Building.

Biddeford Pool had 6 Black Scoter south of Bay Street on Friday.  On a side note there was a deceased juvenile harbor porpoise at Hills Beach.

Finally, there was a Black-crowned Night-Heron on the rocks about 600 yards offshore of Camp Ellis Beach on Friday.  They're likely regular, but it's nice to see one in daylight.

Some photo highlights can be seen here (you should be able to view them whether or not you're on Facebook)
