[Maine-birds] Orange is the new scarlet

This morning I had a very orange scarlet tanager in my yard. That it was in my yard at all was strange because I basically live in a field. It was strange that it was orange and not scarlet--I did quite a double take. And then there was the strange behavior: trying to chase the bluebirds and nuthatches out of the yard. It didn't work. It will be interesting to see if it sticks around.

Another interesting bird behavior: tree swallows and bluebirds don't like grackles. They both have taken turns dive bombing them. Robins don't like them much either.

The bluebirds are actively feeding their fledglings still. One batch of swallows fledged and took off. Another pair is re-nesting. They have 6 eggs. Also have a pair of purple finches who bring the kids to the diner.
