[Maine-birds] Re: Bob White and Botanical IDs, Harmony

Regarding the Bobwhite - When I first started paying attention to birds and bird calls a few years ago, I heard the unmistakable call of a Bobwhite west of Bangor while working around a culvert near some agriculture/pasture land. I recognized the sound from a bird call immediately, but didn't know that they were not common in our area.

Is it likely that the one I heard was an escapee from a sporting range? I guess it had never occurred to me that people would raise them here for hunting. Thanks, Maggie, for bringing this up.

Freedom was short-lived for the bob white. Found the body by the road the very next morning.

Thanks for all the responses regarding the mock orange and honeysuckle.
