[Maine-birds] Re: Common Merganser Female With 30+ Chicks on Sebago Lake

 A very sharp-eyed viewer who saw the pic here noted that the chicks are of different sizes, which strongly hints that two or more broods of different ages have been amalgamated.  Also, I did a closeup of this pic and came up with a final count of either 38 or 39 chicks.  Of course, since mother ducks do not feed their young, this is no
burden on the mom seen here.
