[Maine-birds] Red Phalarope but no King Eider - Bailey Island

The huge flock of eiders that has been building off Jaquish Island, has moved closer to shore and was easily scanned today from the Giant's Stairs. Counting by 100s and 50s, I arrived at 2,050, which does not include 150-200 visible off the Pond Island Ledges. Ni Kings or "Boreals".

Biggest shock was a Red Phalarope seen flying away from shore and headed offshore in a SE direction. Don;t know whether it had been perched on the rocks or not. Well-seen, looking down on it as it fled the scene. I realize this is a very late date, but other shorebirds don't compute.

Mixed w/ the eiders were small numbers of Black and White-winged scoters, a solo Oldsquaw drake, and 8 Com. Loons, some calling.
