[Maine-birds] Yellow-breasted Chat

The Yellow-breasted Chat continues at a lovely small farm in Lincolnville. Jay Philoon reports that it has been there a while. Coming from the north, take 173 at Lincolnville Beach off Route 1. Three or four miles later you’ll come to the Youngtown Road. Turn left. You’ll notice the parking area for hiking up Bald Rock on your left. Go about 15 cents of a mile and you’ll see “Deantown Road” sign on your left. This is their driveway. You should be able to park on it without blocking it near the very head. If you’re coming from Camden, take Rt. 52 to the Youngtown Inn at the junction of Youngtown Rd. “Deantown” is opposite mailbox #93. You can walk up the driveway, and you’ll likely be greeted by two large friendly dogs.

The Chat feeds on the ground at the sunflower feeders in front of the house. I spotted it in a tangle of Rosa multiflora at one end of their small orchard, and got several good looks at it.
