I tallied at least 11 Northern Pintails in the newly-reopened pools this morning - may have missed a few. A scan of the Owls Head runways produced no snowy owls; 25 Canada geese and lots of gulls working the short grassy areas. Somehow a yearling deer has violated the 8-10 foot high metal safety fencing that now surrounds the entire facility. This is either the world's highest jumping deer or perhaps the animal was trapped inside the perimeter when the final panels were installed. A twisted version of the "build it and they will come" concept, I suppose.
