Hi all,
Some more observations of note from me over the past seven days, not previously reported here, included:
- 6 Savannah Sparrows, Parson's Beach, Kennebunk, 1/18.
- 9 Horned Larks, Community Park, Wells, 1/18.
- 1 Swamp Sparrow, Seapoint Beach, Kittery, 1/20 (with Jeannette).
- 52 Harlequin Ducks, between The Nubble and Marginal Way, Ogunquit, 1/20 (with Jeannette).
- 128 Sanderlings, Ogunquit Beach, 1/20 (with Jeannette).
- 12 Iceland Gulls (6 1st-winter, 4 2nd-winter, and 2 adults) and 2 1st-winter Glaucous Gulls, Old Port, Portland, 1/22.
- 1 continuing hen Green-winged Teal and 1 continuing hen Northern Pintail, Mill Creek Cove, South Portland, 1/22.
- 1 immature male HARLEQUIN DUCK, South Freeport, 1/23 (photos): In the Lower Harraseeket River between the Freeport Town Wharf (at the end of Pine St) and Winslow Park. Although very surprising, its not unprecedented in northwest Casco Bay. For example, a "Harlie" overwintered off of Cousin's Island about 10 years ago.
- 3 drake Barrow's Goldeneyes are now present in the Lower Harraseeket River here in South Freeport.
- the "merganser hat trick" (all three species) is finally present again in Yarmouth Harbor, as viewed from the Lower Falls Landing or Grist Mill Park.
- small groups of Common Redpolls at scattered locations throughout the week. Three Pine Siskins were in our Pownal yard on 1/23.
-Derek
