Yesterday, a few of us, including new buddies from NH, watched the Gyr make several sweeping runs across the salt marsh. On its last run, the bird was seen to make a low pass, then disappear "around a bend" on Drakes I. The 2 guys from NH were standing on Drakes Island Rd., and watched it sail over the copse of trees there, and keep on going to the NE.
Apparently it was not seen thereafter in the Wells area that day (or today). Looking at a map, it seems likely the bird might have found new hunting grounds near the Laudholm Farm area, if it didn't just keep on going to Scarborough. The Rachel Carson NWR is a huge area, but seems worthy of a check.
