Hi all -- Acting on an eBird alert to Michael Good's a.m. report of a N. Pintail drake and an Am. Wigeon drake this morning, I went to the first bridge over Bass Harbor Marsh (the first crossing of the marsh after Gott's Store on Rte 102). Got there around 3:25 pm. Fading light. There's a Eurasian Wigeon hanging tight with the American Wigeon drake. Too dim for photos, but I had a long look and am very confident. eBird list here with an uploaded real time audio file of the field marks as I noted them.
-- I'll be back in the morning, and I suspect a few other birders will be there too. Best places to park would be the n. end of Acadia N. Park's "Hio Road" fire road (just before Pork Chop Lane), or cross the bridge and park on a dirt pad to the right (north), then walk back and look north into the marsh. Scope will be helpful. And I hope tonight's rain doesn't scatter the birds.
Traffic can be intense, so please be careful. I prefer to stand on the thin patch of ground behind the guard rail on the SOUTH side of the marsh and look north toward Western Mountain.
Best,
Craig Kesselheim
