Finally had a chance to get to the Saco River Walk today. I think I waited a day too long. Twenty minutes in the early morning and 2.5 hours just after noon turned up none of the late or rare species reported consistently over the past couple of weeks. On the bright side, I was able to develop nice relationships with most of the cardinals, chickadees, and juncos on site. They said they liked the way my binoculars kept snapping up to my eyeballs every time they came in from a new direction. Those birds and their crazy sense of humor! I suppose the warblers and tanager will be back on the hillside making magic first thing Tuesday, laughing it up without me.
