On Sunday, December 20, a team of 25 birders counted 50 species and 10,150 individuals. Three count-week species have been added so far.
The mean temperature was 26 degrees, skies were clear and the wind blew in the teens for most of the day. There was no snow cover, and the water was mostly open.
Except for 8 PURPLE FINCHES, winter finches were absent this year.
28 BUFFLEHEADS set the only new high for the area. AMERICAN CROWS were estimated at around 3,500 as they were coming and going to roost, and 1,840 were counted during the day.
Notable species included 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 CAROLINA WRENS, one GREAT BLUE HERON, one BARROW'S GOLDENEYE and a NORTHERN FLICKER (cw).
