Visitors:
58 people, including many enthusiastic young birders, visited the hawkwatch today.

Weather:
The day started off with moderate and gusty winds, mostly from the northeast. During the last few hours of the count, winds calmed quite a bit and became more northwesterly. Skies were partly cloudy with some wispy cirrus, and temperatures were mainly in the fifties.

Raptor Observations:
The morning started off slow during the gusty period, but when winds began to calm there was a nice burst of activity from 1:00-2:00 pm EST. Birds started off low and some became quite high during the afternoon, with a few small kettles forming. After the mid-afternoon flurry, activity slowed again. Broad-winged Hawks stole the show today.

Non-raptor Observations:
At least one Ruby-crowned Kinglet and two Chipping Sparrows were hanging around today, and three Pine Warblers were busily singing. A beautiful Yellow-bellied Sapsucker landed nearby and called.

38 bird species were observed today. Species deemed migrating: 97 Tree Swallows
85 passerine sp. (one large and distant flock of either American Robins or blackbird sp.)
78 Double-crested Cormorants
5 Brown-headed Cowbirds
3 Yellow-rumped Warblers
1 Common Merganser
1 Pine Siskin

Predictions:
The forecast for tomorrow looks excellent. Warm temperatures reaching the mid sixties, clear skies, and light winds should bring many migrants past the summit. Wind direction is expected to start off westerly, becoming more southwesterly during late morning and afternoon. We hope to see you there. Don't forget your binoculars!
