[Maine-birds] PIWA, EATO - Eastern Promenade

Hi all!

Despite a late-morning drizzle, managed to find 32 species on the Eastern Promenade, including a FOY Pine Warbler, 9 FOY Savannah Sparrows, and an Eastern Towhee foraging in a garden of a private residence.

Also, an aggressively dueling pair of Morning Doves, that kept chasing each other. First time I have seen that behavior.

While the East End Beach is great for gull-spotting and watching all manner of diving birds, I'd recommend to all birders spending some time on Munjoy Hill to check out the Mid-slope trail, which runs from the baseball field on the Eastern Prom up to I-295 behind the sewage treatment plant. The past few weeks, that small section of trail has yielded: Merlin, Hermit Thrushes, both Kinglet species, four types of woodpecker, and some great views of Osprey and Red-tailed Hawks riding low overhead on the sea breeze, and all the other usual urban forest suspects.

Good birding to all,
Ian C.
