I have observed this often (Downies as well) . I use a suet log hung at a 45* angle and sometimes the kid lands on the top side of the log with the adult on the bottom side where the suet is - it usually takes the kid 3 or 4 days to figure out (or dare) to hang on to the under side of the log to get his own goodies!
