Despite a real dirth of shorebirds at Seawall and Popham beaches yesterday afternoon on the receding tide - 3:00 - 4:30 - a single Baird's Sandpiper was giving its harsh "krik" with a small flock of Least and Semipalmated sandpipers. The flock landed for a short time along the Morse River before flying off. About 20% larger than the Semis, long-winged, some buff on chest but not nearly a bright as the beautiful fall juves yet to come. It seems that there are a few more reports of adults this summer which are generally very scarce migrants in the Northeast. Also adult and juv Piping plovers, 4 Killdeer, and only 3 Short-billed Dows. 4 Roseate Terns and three Leasts.
Best, Peter
