RE: [Maine-birds] blackbirds and binoculars

For the money, I have seen nothing as good as the Celestron Granite series.  They incorporate ED glass, have a wonderful open barrel design, and are reasonably lightweight.  My wife has the Nikon Monarch 7, and she and I both prefer the Celestron.  Price is around 350.00.

Subject: [Maine-birds] blackbirds and binoculars

Have been seeing many large groups of blackbirds flying high at dawn and dusk mostly in the Kittery area.  There is a huge (100,000) roost in Portsmouth, NH, so they are likely heading to or coming from there.

Also, am in the market for new binoculars having found some money in a shoebox!  Would appreciate amy input from birders on bins in the $500 range including where to purchase same.  Thanks in advance.  Dave Tucker, Kittery Pt.      dhtucker@comcast.net
