My wife and I did much the same walk on this past blustery Monday morning.
We also saw a couple of Vespers along with a solitary Field Sparrow close to where the trail divides and a deep gully runs along the left.
A Kestrel was chasing some of the Song Sparrows around too which was fun to watch. As long as you're not a Song Sparrow I guess!
Cheers

That area was bubbling with Vesper Sparrows in the scrub growth alongside the road. There must have been at least two dozen flitting around, with many others singing away out of sight on either side of us. I don't think I'd ever seen nearly that many at one time before.pfw================================================================
