[Maine-birds] Re: Great "White" Heron- Little Pond (Adams Rd), Stoneham- 7/7/17

As of 8:45am the bird was still in Little Pond. When I arrived it was in the same place as yesterday but within a couple minutes flew to the northeast corner of Little Pond, right by Adams Road (when I drove out I looked to see if it was easily seen from the road and it wasn't easily seen. Since there was someone else looking at the bird I didn't want to get out of the car and possibly scare it.)

In flight the bird is Magnificent!!! Large bright white wings and body contrasted with the yellow bill. Wish I had a better camera.

In the next pond just to the south of Little Pond there was a "regular" Great Blue Heron.

I live only a mile or two from this location so just drove over and can confirm that the bird is still there as of 10:15am this morning 7/8/17....it is now located in the Southeast corner of Little Pond as far from the road as it can get. It was hanging out right by a large beaver lodge and did not fly at all. I was the only person there.

Hi all,

Yesterday, an interesting heron was posted to Maine Birds on Facebook. I contacted the poster and got location info, then headed out to the spot this morning to search for what we identified as a Great Blue Heron (White Morph). I got to Little Pond today and immediately saw the heron standing in a tree on the bank of the pond. The bird was fairly flighty, and moved from tree to tree. Nonetheless, the views were sufficient enough to confirm a Great White Heron, and I got a bunch of photos.
