[Maine-birds] Gilsland Farm Bird Walk, 11/8

Hello Maine-birds:

It was a beautiful morning at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth during our weekly bird walk with temps starting in the low 40s but raising to nearly 50ºF. Irruptive finch numbers have been building over the past couple months with 25+ Purple Finches now around the meadows, especially favoring the abundant ash samaras (vocab word of the week). Pine Siskins have also been numerous and frequenting the Discovery Room feeders lately. Another seasonal shift: American Tree Sparrows have also moved in over the past week while winter ducks, especially Bufflehead, are increasing.

Other birds of note included an Orange-crowned Warbler and a Common Yellowthroat, both in the swale that extends into the North Meadow. A single Rusty Blackbird was also briefly seen in the North Meadow but the highest entertainment value came from a group of 10 or so very vocal Eastern Bluebirds foraging and chasing each other around the West Meadow.

A complete list from the walk is available here: https://ebird.org/me/view/checklist/S49755812

Good birding,
