[Maine-birds] Addison Marsh birds

Hi birders,

I stopped by the Addison Marsh on Monday afternoon to do a bird count of the salt pannes across from the boat landing.  The black-bellied plover was the an enjoyable find.  I reported numbers about two week ago.  I was there from 3:30 to 4:30 on a falling tide (before mid tide).  I will list the numbers from Monday along with those from March 31.

Note, black-bellied plovers roost at high tide on the salt marsh throughout spring.  They are usually easy to pick out because the vegetation is low.  They will remain at the marsh at high tide well into early June.  I was lucky to pick up the one on Monday as it was very far away.  I did not see it until it walked then vanished when it sat back down.  Birds that are roosting directly across from the boat ramp are easy to detect unless they are down lower in a salt panne.  If you are not seeing any shorebirds or few ducks, carefully and slowly scan the marsh again and again.  Patience is usually rewarded!

Happy birding,
