No grassland sparrows or Upland Sandpipers yet at Kennebunk Plains . Last year, around the same date, there were Vesper, Field, and Savannah Sparrows. I'm sure that it was possible there were some here today but were in hiding from all of the raptors led by 29 American Kestrels! (16 on either side of Rte 99 and 13 on either side of McGuire Rd.) There was also a Grey Ghost roaming the area as well as 2 Red-Taileds, a Bald Eagle, and a possible Broad-Winged Hawk that I failed to relocate in my scope. I could only account for one FOY Eastern Meadowlark.
A quick stop behind Pelreco at the Scarborough Marsh on the way home yielded:
2 Little Blue Herons
13 Glossy Ibis
5 Snowy Egrets
2 Great Egrets
1 Gray Ghost
1 American Kestrel
28 Green-Winged Teals
3 Gadwall
2 Greater Yellowlegs
Late in the afternoon, I stopped by Capisic Pond, and for the first time this spring here in my travels, there was a pair of Wood Ducks. I swear I heard a Marsh Wren across the pond at one point, but barely heard it and it did not repeat, so I can't say for sure. I certainly am open to the possibility that I was imagining things!
Bird haahd,
Noah Gibb-Portland
