[Maine-birds] Ring-necked pheasant on I-95!

Northbound on I-95 in the single-lane approach to the Kennebec River bridge repair project, about 6:30 p.m. on April 5.  A male ring-necked pheasant was creating a kerfluffle on the highway.  He repeatedly dashed into a steady stream of oncoming cars running at ~50 mph, then half-ran, half-flew back to safety in the closed lane next to the median as we braked and swerved to avoid him.  Not sure if he was a) the proverbial chicken trying to cross the road, b) a refugee from a nearby game farm trying to make his escape to freedom in the tall grass near the river, c) defending what had to be the Worst.Territory.Ever. for his prospective harem of females.  Other theories welcomed.  Doubt that he has lived to tell the tale, but I have.  Five miles farther up the road, I saw a great blue heron on the wing, my FOY north of the Kennebec.
