Observation start time: 07:45:00
Observation end   time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8.25 hours

Official Counter:        Katrina Fenton

Observers:        Don Thompson, Ken Klapper

Visitors:
17, including several newcomers to the hawkwatch. Thanks for visiting and
helping spot those distant birds!

Weather:
If hawkcounters could order weather at a spring watchsite, it would read
something like today's conditions; light to moderate southwest wind, a
changing landscape of clouds passing over the sky, and temperatures running
in the mid-50s. The wind gradually lessened as the day wore on, though with
a cold front sweeping across the region, a northwest breeze picked up in
the late afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
Another day with a good push of migrants. Packing a lunch, an Osprey
traveled north with a fishy snack clenched in its talons. Two more Northern
Goshawks moved through, one a tattered adult or sub-adult, a calico mix of
old and new attire with uneven flight feathers arrayed in slipshod fashion.
The other goshawk was a still sporting its crisp juvenile plumage of
streaky browns and creams.

Non-raptor Observations:
The first Eastern Phoebe at the hawkwatch this season passionately
announced itself this morning in contrast to the first-of-year RUSTY
BLACKBIRD who called twice as it flew over the summit. Hawkwatch Junco
spent the day laying out the law for potential rivals who had arrived
overnight.

Non-raptor migrants:
Canada Goose- 3  Common Merganser- 2  Great Blue Heron- 1
Killdeer- 1      Tree Swallow- 13     American Robin- 32
Eastern Bluebird- 1 Rusty Blackbird- 1 Common Grackle- 19
Red-winged Blackbird- 13  blackbird sp.- 363
American Goldfinch- 1     passerine sp.- 17

Predictions:
Tommorrow will be a bit of a slow down after the last couple of days. The
wind will be out of the northwest at 15-20mph, though it will decrease some
later in the afternoon. The high temperature for the day should be in the
mid-40s. There will be very few clouds to block the sun, which should make
it seem a little warmer at the summit.
