[Maine-birds] Upland sandpiper and eastern meadowlark in Deblois

Hi folks,

While coming back from Jonesport on Monday, I swung by the airstrip across from the Wyman field offices to see if any grassland/shrubland birds had returned.  I made about 6 listening stops along the mile-long runway.

I heard one upland sandpiper give its unmistakable wolf-whistle vocalization on the west side of the runway and a second bird give alarm notes from the right side.  I could not make visual contact with either bird.  An eastern meadowlark was vocalizing at another stop.  Otherwise, it was very quiet.  There were six kestrels present, five along the road.  I hade four other kestrels along various blueberry barrens.

I stopped by Mardens in Brewer and there was an indigo bunting singing above the parking lot on the Bangor end of the building.

Enjoy the birds,
