...this is for the birders here on MDI, especially if you drive a truck.
Published in this week's Mt. Desert Islander "Island Police" report (name of truck omitted to protect the innocent, or possibly the guilty):
"A Crooked Road resident reported a suspicious truck with a _ _ _ sticker on the door stopping in front of houses on the road. The driver was looking through binoculars, according to the report."
Also here in the Crooked Road neighborhood, I believe the Pileated Woodpeckers may have young ones in a nest behind our house. The adult pair go berserk every time I walk into the wooded part of the yard, and for two days we have heard loud woodpecker-like squawking almost constantly. Sounds a lot like hungry young Hairy woodpeckers (the Hairy pair nest near our house every year and it's a noisy business), but these squawks are even louder. I'm not going to search for the nest because the adults are so distressed when I go back there, and I don't want to disturb them if they are feeding young. Published in this week's Mt.
