To celebrate the return of the sun, I took a walk in the woods this a.m. near my house. All of the usual breeding birds now seem to be in place despite the weather. Had blooming lady slippers, lots of tadpoles in vernal pools, a woodfrog.
The bird of the day was the chestnut sided warbler, vying for abundance with ovenbirds. Close runner up was common yellowthroat, earning its name.
Also had bl th blue, bl th green, and bl and white, r.e. vireo. I *think* I had a canada, but never saw it. I listened to its song on allaboutbirds when I got back and they matched, but...
