[Maine-birds] Black-bellied Whistling Ducks: Yes tonight

Jeff Webb and I found 2 along the edge of the first pond at MDI High School late this afternoon and they were still there at 7:20.  Scott Cronenweth and Michael Good also saw them.  The 2 were very well-concealed at first in the grass along the pond edge, almost invisibly so.   But once they began swimming they seemed oblivious to people.    The other 3 didn't appear to be present at any of the ponds, but according to source I've read BBWD are very much a grass-foraging waterfowl AND they like to perch in trees, so maybe they were above us and we didn't notice them.

Speaking of Whistling Ducks (not Black-bellied), did anyone know that it's LEGAL to hunt FULVOUS Whistling Ducks in Maine, according to state Game regulations?  The bag limit is 2 (seriously).
