[Maine-birds] May 18 Brunswick to Bowdoinham report

Heather HIgbee and I did our own "big day" Saturday, from about 6 a.m. until noon. We have
been doing this same run which covers Brunswick to Bowdoinham, river stops along the
way, a little time at the saltwater coves, and then farm, forest, field for over 30 years.
This year we saw 72 species
(and a few we couldn't identify) which was an all time high for us.

Some notes:
White-crowned sparrows in abundance. 10 under and in our feeders on the farm and some
years I never see a single one.
Chipping sparrows, which are always here, but now exceed all previous numbers and they too
congregated up to 10 at a time in the platform feeder.
Bobolinks in a couple of the farm fields in Topsham in much higher numbers than previous years
(at least in our estimation).
8 pine siskins, thanks to Derek's advice about fresh nyjer seed, are at that feeder every day.

We saw all the usual birds, 11 species of warblers with a Wilson's a high point for us.
Did not see or hear wood thrush or scarlet tanager.
Eastern towhee, field sparrow and prairie warbler along the power lines where they are every year.

FOY Great-crested flycatcher, wood peewee, and Eastern kingbird.

Like everyone else says, it was a glorious day to be birding.
