Mount Desert Island Birds: Blackpoll Warbler
Acadia National Park Great Meadow , Hancock, US-ME

Protocol: Traveling
3.5 mile(s)
Comments: Blackpoll Warbler (Setophaga striata ) was heard at the junction of Jessup and the wooden bog trail. The high thin staccato and slightly monotonous call would be indiscernible twittering on the wind. This male called about ten times and stayed at a distance in the taller Betula, sometime approaching me before disappearing on the wind. Each call lasted approximately the same length. Easily accessible from the loop road this is a hot spot on MDI and worth the effort anytime of the day. Not many warblers here but Swamp Sparrow males calling and squabbling over territory. An amazing spring morning
