Folks,
Earlier this week I birded a friends small property fronting Freedom Pond in Waldo County for several days. Despite being only 28 acres the property's habitat is quite diverse producing a nice list of more than 60 species including bald eagle and common loon... most impressive were the property's 14 warbler species! The Pond can be birded best by driving surrounding roads or via boat (accessed at the public launch). The surrounding country is dominated by farmland including substantial hay meadows... unfortunately the short mowing return intervals now common throughout New England are likely limiting potential for grassland birds... but the area is worth closer inspection.
