Hi all,
As with most weeks in June, my birding highlights involved seeing the region's specialties from Manx Shearwater to Bicknell's Thrush to Saltmarsh Sparrow. As for the less-expected highlights of mine over the past seven days, those included:
-1 continuing Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Old Town House Park, North Yarmouth, 6/7 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).
- 1 drake Gadwall at Pelreco and another at Jones Creek, Scarborough Marsh, 6/10 (with a client).
- 1 immature Great Cormorant, Cape Neddick, 6/10 (with a client; photos).
- 1 Olive-sided Flycatcher (late migrant), 5 Short-billed Dowitchers, 12 Black-bellied Plovers, 1 Semipalmated Plover, and 3 Surf Scoters, Reid State Park, Georgetown, 6/11 (with a client).
- 1 immature Great Cormorant and 3 Black Scoters, Fort Foster, Kittery, 6/12 (with a client).
- 1 subadult male COMMON GOLDENEYE, Cutt's Island, Kittery, 6/12 (with a client; photos).
- 1 Surf Scoter, Seapoint Beach, Kittery, 6/12 (with a client).
- 1 Great Cormorant and 1 Surf Scoter, Ocean Avenue, Biddeford Pool, 6/12 (with a client).
- 1 Arctic Tern feeding inshore with Roseate and Common Terns, East Point, Biddeford Pool, 6/12 (with a client).
And completely unexpected has been the recent nest building by a pair of Eastern Bluebirds here at the store in the past several days!
-Derek
