I've seen Laughing Gulls scratching the sand for Horseshoe Crab eggs, I've seen them plummet dive on occasion, and I've seen them foraging through stuff in the wrack, but this morning was the first time I've ever seen them imitate Black Skimmers.
Two birds (off Stover Pt.) made repeated low skims over an active school of breaking bait-fish (sp?) . Although I had jaw-dropping looks at this behavior, I never did see the gulls drop their lower mandibles through the fish-mass. If a fish had gone airborne, though, I think they might have scored a meal.
