[Maine-birds] YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, Monhegan, 9.24.14

Jane Mirick spotted a female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD in the Meadow this morning. She and Steve alerted Phil Brown's group down by the pumpkin patch/Pierce Cottage, who saw it fly over. Phil's shout alerted a bunch of us across the Meadow, so we all saw it too. It was last seen flying toward the Ice Pond, but the fire truck is draining its hoses there today so a lot of commotion there. It has not been relocated yet, but odds are good it will return to the Meadow at some point, where several Rustys have also been seen today.

Good assortment of vireos--including Yellow-throated--and more warbler variety today. Big clusters of kinglets, in particular, and Steve Mirick and I both noted a flock of 15 siskins earlier this morning. Raptor action has been good too. And it's a gorgeous day!
